Today we're launching Copy Trading—a new way to invest alongside the people whose thinking you already follow. Pick an investor you trust on X (Twitter), and Portfolio Genius's AI turns their ideas into trades that actually fit your portfolio. No blind mirroring, no spreadsheets, no copying weights that quietly wreck your allocation.

The Idea Is Simple

You don't have to find every winner yourself. There are sharp investors posting their thinking in public every single day— naming the stocks they're bullish on, flagging risks, and reacting to the news in real time. Following someone with a track record and a clear thesis often beats guessing on your own.

That's the promise of copy trading: find people who already do it well, and follow their conviction. The trouble is that actually copying someone is much harder than it sounds.

Why Naïve Copying Breaks Your Portfolio

Most copy-trading apps replicate someone else's trades one-for-one and ignore what you already own. That breaks down fast. A great call in their account isn't automatically a great trade in yours—and reconciling the two is exactly where most tools stop.

What do you sell to buy it?

They post a new buy—but your cash is already deployed. Something has to be trimmed or sold first. Which position, and how much?

Their sizing isn't your sizing

A 10% position in their account could blow up the balance of yours. Copying weights one-for-one quietly wrecks your allocation.

Risk and concentration

Chase every call and you end up over-concentrated in one sector or theme. Real copying has to respect diversification and risk limits.

News and market timing

A pick from last week may have already run, missed earnings, or shifted on macro news. Context decides whether to act now, wait, or pass.

The AI Does the Hard Part

Portfolio Genius treats an investor's posts as a signal, not a script. Our AI reconciles that signal with your real positions, cash, risk, and the market before suggesting a single trade. Here's what happens under the hood:

Reads the posts for you

The AI pulls an X account's recent posts and extracts explicit picks, cashtags like $AAPL, and bullish/bearish commentary—ignoring the noise.

Weighs conviction

Engagement and emphasis become a rough conviction signal, so a throwaway mention isn't treated like a high-confidence call.

Reconciles with your portfolio

It looks at what you already own and your available cash, then works out exactly what to sell or trim to fund each recommended buy.

Manages risk and balance

Position sizing, concentration, and diversification are checked against your portfolio before any trade is suggested.

Keeps watching

As new posts appear, the AI re-reviews the thesis and rebalances—so your portfolio tracks the investor over time, not just on day one.

Start From the “X Copy Trading” Template

There's no setup from scratch. When you create a portfolio, pick the X Copy Trading template —it ships pointed at @HowardLindzon as an example. Swap in any public X (Twitter) handle whose investing ideas you want to follow, and the AI takes it from there: it fetches the account's recent posts, identifies actionable market views—on specific stocks as well as sectors, themes, commodities, or the broader market—and builds a portfolio that expresses those views and their conviction.

See It Live on the X Copy Trading Leaderboard

Want to see copy trading in action before you set up your own? We launched a new X Copy Trading leaderboard alongside the feature. It runs 20 AI-managed portfolios, each mirroring the investment ideas of a prominent voice on X (Twitter) —finance, tech, business, and policy leaders alike:

Howard Lindzon, Jim Cramer, Cathie Wood, Bill Ackman, Michael Saylor, Anthony Pompliano, Peter Schiff, Citrini, Chamath Palihapitiya, Kevin O'Leary, Mark Cuban, Carl Icahn, Raoul Pal, Ray Dalio, Michael Burry, Elon Musk, Marc Andreessen, David Sacks, and more.

Each portfolio starts from the same $10,000 and is managed entirely by AI reading that account's posts. Sort by total gain or Sharpe ratio, compare performance over different time ranges, and click into any portfolio to see exactly what it holds and why. It's a live, public, no-account-required look at how different investing philosophies actually play out—and a useful complement to our Strategy Zoo leaderboard.

How to Get Started

Copy trading takes three steps:

  1. Pick the X Copy Trading template – Start from the ready-made template and swap in any X (Twitter) handle whose ideas you want to follow.
  2. Let the AI build it – The AI reads the account's posts, extracts the thesis, reconciles it with your positions and cash, and proposes a portfolio that fits you.
  3. Review and stay in control – Every suggested trade comes with a rationale. Approve them yourself, or opt into automation—run it as a bot portfolio in a simulated account, or connect Alpaca to automate live trades through your own broker.

A Word on Risk

Copying any single investor concentrates your portfolio in their views, which is why the X Copy Trading template is tagged High Risk. Portfolio Genius is built to manage that—the AI flags concentration, factors in diversification and market context, and keeps you in control of every trade. It removes the mechanical mistakes of naïve copying, but it does not remove market risk. And to be clear: Portfolio Genius is an analytics and automation platform, not a registered investment advisor. Its output is for informational and educational purposes only—always do your own research.

Copy the investors you trust—the smart way

Pick an X account, and let AI turn their ideas into trades that fit your portfolio, your cash, and your risk. Free to start, no signup required to browse the leaderboard.
